JCR hustings tonight

Right before the film society, at 8pm, the JCR hustings will take place. This is the opportunity for candidates running for contested positions to speak, and for you to ask questions. So, be there or be square. In JCR.

JCR committee elections

The JCR elections will be held this term, with the entire committee being elected. These are the available positions, please click JCR committee tab above for the description of the jobs:

The election rules stand as follow:

Nominations will be taken during 6th week.Nominations will close 3 days before the polling date.

Valid nominations shall be displayed 2 days before polling begins, along with the time and place of the hustings for contested positions, which shall be held at least 1 day before polling.

The Polling will happen in 7th week

The President and all other committee members shall hold their posts until the 8/9th week of Michaelmas Term.

Nominations:

Any nomination must be proposed and seconded by JCR members and agreed by the candidate, who must be a JCR member with full voting rights.

Campaigns:

No publicity material relating to the elections may be produced by any JCR member. No posters are to be displayed, nor leaflets distributed.

Full JCR meeting tonight

Dear all,

I hope your weekend is ending well.

I am here to let you know of the wonderful opportunity that is the Full JCR meeting which will be taking place this Wednesday, the 11th of November, in the JCR before dinner at 17.00.

This is a wonderful opportunity for all HMC students, including MCR members, and especially all of you lovely freshers to:

• learn what it is exactly the JCR committee does.
• let us know what you would like the committee to do.
• ask any queries about JCR/College matters.

As the following week will see the nominations begin for the election of a new JCR committee, it would be amazing if as many of you as possible attended. All are welcome to stand for election to committee and I hope that some of you newer students will stand. This Wednesday will be the perfect time to get your bearings and decide if this is something you might want to do.

Actually, it depicts you all rushing to the full JCR meeting, which will take place in this Thursday, 11 June, in the JCR at 5pm. And the JCR hustings will be held the same day, after dinner. There are three candidates running for president and James may want to say something as well.

Week 6 round-up

Only three weeks left, folks! Here are some things that will be going on this week:

• Thursday will be busy: the HumScis finish their exams, promptly at 12.30, and again you are all invited to meet them outside the Schools – the door they leave through is the back one on Merton Street
• also on Thursday, the hustings for the JCR president for Michaelmas term
• the actual election will be held on Friday; this president will, as you remember, only sit for one term, and after that it’s all new committee

Coming up next week: more finalists finish (I know at least Eliza will wrap on Monday, the rest of the theology people along the week, the law students… The traditional big wine society event will be taking place on Wednesday, also the day of the last SCR guest night of the term, so get party frocks and lounge suits ready. JCR guest nigth will be happening on Friday next week; this will be the last guest night of the finalists, so be there to send them off…

…and those of you who know the college porter and keeper-of-the-keys John are aware that he has been complaining the complete lack of mayhem here in the HMC lately. According to John, it’s disgraceful how wellbehaved and mature we have all become.

So, people, to show your appreciation, make some mischief.

JCR meeting

Full JCR meeting will be held tomorrow, Thursday, 5pm in the JCR room. We know you all are busy, but please come.

One of the items on the agenda will be Karen retiring, which means there will be a by-election (I think that’s the word, but I’m no native speaker) on the 6th week this term. By-election means that the post will be filled for Michaelmas term next academic year, and then a new election again in the end of Michaelmas, when the entire JCR committee is elected.

What else…? JCR photo coming up – you have seen the old ones on the wall, so you know the deal. That will be happening sometime 8th week, hopefully not in pouring rain.

And one more thing. The first finalists (the English students) will be finishing their workload early next week. So, be there to honour yet another Oxford tradition – the trashing. If any one of you feels like tossing a cake on Eastlake’s face, now is your chance. Just do it in a civilised, non-messy way. And even if that isn’t your thing, still go to the Schools, these people have deserved a bit of celebrations.

JCR elections again

Due to the post of JCR president being contested after all, the elections were postponed till Monday 1st December. The ballot will be open from 10am till 6pm, and the result available sometime after dinner. Both JCR and MCR members are allowed to vote, so go for it!

Bits and pieces

This blog obviously hasn’t been updated in a few days, my humble apologies – it’s been a bit crazy time-wise lately!

But. The full JCR meeting passed the amendments made to the constitution, most important of those being the extension of the committee term. From this upcoming election onwards, the committee will be elected for three terms instead of one, meaning that the new committee elected next week will be in office through Hilary to Michaelmas.

The sign-up sheet is now up on the notice board outside JCR, so if you are interested, get to it! The hustings will be held on Thursday 7th week, and the election on Friday.

Also, the sign-up sheet for the wine society event of Wednesday 26th is now up, limited number of places available. The even will be, as usually, before the SCR guest dinner, and the theme has something to do with French wines. Black tie recommended.  Members £4 and guests and non-members £8.

Also, it’ll be the MCR guest night next Friday, so JCR members are left to theirs own devices dinner-wise.
